Egypt 2009 - Day 10
Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 – Fly from Aswan to Cairo
This morning after breakfast, we visited the Nubian Museum across the street from our hotel. It was a fabulous museum. There were no crowds. There was a wonderful display of the structures that were moved to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. There were also mummies, jewelry, dioramas and outdoor features including a cave with cave carvings.
Egypt 2009 - Day 10
After the museum, it was time to board our bus for the transfer to the airport. We flew back to Cairo and transferred to our hotel in downtown Cairo.
Our evening event was a dinner cruise on the Nile. It was billed as Egyptian food and folklore. The food was yet another buffet containing such Egyptian delicacies as rigatoni and stuffed cannelloni. The first half of the folklore was two singers dressed in jeans singing among other things Elvis and Santana songs. I’m not saying it was bad, just not my idea of Egyptian folklore. The second half of the evening, our entertainment consisted of a belly dancer and Dervish dancer. They were both very good and this part of the evening was the highlight of the evening for me. The cruise was pleasant but the views were limited. I briefly went topside to view the river from the outside. It was very smoky and rather chilly so I didn’t stay outside very long.
